With just over a week to go before the kickoff of the high school football season, area teams will get one last look at how they stack up against the competition as jamborees will be held throughout the state Friday night.
Coach Rob Bowers and the Richmond Spartans will be heading to Knob Noster. The Spartans, along with Chillicothe, Smithville and the host Panthers will get together beginning at 7 p.m.
Richmond will face Chillicothe in the first session that will be played on the West end of the field, while Knob Noster and Smithville scrimmage on the other end. Session No. 2 will have the Spartans and Panthers on the East end, and Richmond will then face Smithville in the final session at the same end of the field.
The ball will be placed on the 35-yard line and each team will get 12 plays. A 2-minute break will then be held as the teams switch from offense to defense during the session. There will be a 10-minute break between each session.
The Orrick Bearcats will be at Tiger Stadium in Excelsior Springs Friday evening. The two-time defending Class 1 state champs will be holding a jamboree with Lathrop and Cass-Midway.
The Hardin-Central Bulldogs will be hosting a four-team jamboree at Lee Meador Field. Joining the Dawgs will be Southwest of Livingston County, Chilhowee and Norborne. The Lawson Cardinals will be at Cameron. The Cardinals will face the host Dragons, along with Holden and Savannah. The Excelsior Springs Tigers will be at Ruskin along with Pembroke Hill, Plattsburg and the host Eagles.
