Robert H. Gerlt, 56, of Carrollton was pronounced dead at 4:40 a.m. by Ray County Coroner Jim Garrison at the scene of a two-car accident .1 mile east of Richmond on 10 Highway, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report.
Gerlt was headed westbound on Hwy 10 when his 1999 Buick Century traveled across the centerline and collided with a 2004 Chrysler Sebring, above, driven by 25-year-old Amber F. Jones of North Platte, Neb. The Jones vehicle traveled off the north side of the road and rolled onto its top. The Gerlt vehicle went off the south side of the road and came to rest upright in the ditch. Jones was life flighted to Independence Centerpoint Hospital with serious injuries. Carmichael Service Inc. towed both vehicles away. No summons were issued. Neither driver was wearing safety belts. The accident was investigated by Missouri Highway Patrol Cpl. N.E.
