With a new parks system comes added interest. With added interest comes added opportunity.
Ordinance Committee Chairman Roger Kepple said last night during an Ordinance Committee meeting that some concerns have been expressed by the park board about outside vendors making money at the city's parks.
Kepple said the main concern is vendors such as ice cream trucks. He said the Park Board is trying to keep a separate fund for monies made at the park that can be pumped back into the system. However, with vendors, no money is going back into the system.
"Parks and Rec need to be represented and they need a commission off anything sold there," Kepple said.
Kepple said some think any vendors that sell anything in the park should be included. But some Councilmen have concerns about bands that play free concerts not being able to sell their items.
Mayor Pro Tem Mike Wright said the city already has a vendor and peddler ordinance that may be tweaked to address the Park Board's concern.
The committee decided to table the ordinance until concert organizer Bob Moses and Park Board President Joyce Bowles could be consulted further.
