Two of the three Orrick Bearcat golfers enjoyed a better second round Tuesday at the Class 1 State Tournament at the Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield.
Preston Karnes and Joe Kaufman both ended their first rounds with 88 on Monday, which put them in a tie for 40th spot heading into Tuesday.
Karnes came back with an 82 to finish with a two-day total of 170 that put him in a three-way tie for 23rd. Kaufman carded an 82 for a total of 171, and a four-way tie for 27th.
Kalija Rogers followed his first-round score of 91 with a 95 on Tuesday. His tournament total of 186 put him in a tie for 76th.
Andy Godwin of Greenwood edged runner-up Derek Hawkins of Tarkio as the Class 1 medalist.
Both golfers struggled in their second rounds with Godwin carding a 78 Tuesday to follow his opening round of 74, while Hawkins shot 80 on Tuesday after a 74 on Monday. Shane Kressig of Salisbury finished third with rounds of 80 and 75 for a two-day total of 155.
Greenwood captured the team title with a 325 on Monday and a 337 on Tuesday for a 662.
Sedalia Sacred Heart was 17 shots behind with 343-336, and Mid Buchanan placed third with 343-349 (692).
