The Richmond bands will present the annual Pageant of Bands this Tuesday, April 28, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Richmond High School gym.
Erik Pointer, director of Richmond Bands, will conduct each band as they perform their selections for the audience.
The sixth, seventh and eighth grade bands will perform numbers from the Standards of Excellence Book. They will be followed by the Richmond Symphonic Wind Band and the RHS Jazz Ensemble.
“This is the only time that all of the bands perform at the same event,” said Paula Richey. “It’s a great opportunity for the younger band students to hear what the more advanced grades are playing and what they have to look forward to.”
Richey said the Richmond Band Boosters will be have a live auction during intermissions as each band moves so the next one can set up. Auction items include: two one-hour golf lessons by Jeff Southwick, a one month bi-weekly house cleaning from Shelley Pangborn, two months of chiropractic services from Richey Chiropractic, a piano tuning sponsored by Community Bank, a three-hour rock wall party at RMS offered by Coach Ken Simmons, two admissions to music camp at Missouri State University in Springfield, gift certificates and more. The guest auctioneer will be David Simmons.
“This is Mr. Pointer’s last Pageant of Bands Concert, as he is retiring at the end of this year,” said Richey. “There is something for everyone at the auction and it’s open to the public. Come and support our Richmond bands.”
With the retirement of Mr. Pointer just weeks away, Richey hopes the community will stop by the Richmond High School Commons, from 3-5 p.m., on Sunday, May 3 to thank and visit with him at a special retirement party. Light refreshments will be served.
