Numbers can be fun and are seldom as sweet as when conquering math problems earns points and placings, such as the first place win by the Richmond Middle School Math Team.
“This is the first year in RMS history that we have been awarded first place in the team event,” said RMS seventh grade math teacher, and also one of the coaches, Brenda Hamm. “Way to go math team!”
Richmond Middle School hosted the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics Contest Saturday, April 4. Richmond competed against teams from Holden and Grain Valley.
The following RMS students placed in the competition:
• 7th Grade: Reece Milligan – 4th place; Matt Tweedie – 7th place; Catherine Pence – 9th
• 8th Grade: Tomi Hook – 6th place; Caleb Scarborough – 7th place; Kathleen Hunt – 8th place
• Algebra: Jimmy Hamm – 1st place; Daniel Dehn – 2nd place; John Landwehr – 3rd place
In the team event, the RMS team consisting of Daniel Dehn, Jimmy Hamm, John Landwehr and Caleb Scarborough took first place honors. This means the team will represent Richmond Middle School at the Missouri State Mathematics Contest on April 25 at Missouri State University in Springfield.
Individual students that will represent RMS in the state competition are Jimmy Hamm, Daniel Dehn and John Landwehr.
