For one of the rare times this season, the Orrick Bearcat golfers did not have to contend with winds as they hosted a triangular at Shirkey Golf Course Wednesday afternoon.
The Bearcats had three of their five golfers turn in scores under 50 as they edged Hamilton 179-182, with St. Paul’s of Concordia shooting a 240.
It was the lowest score for the Bearcats this season as they improved their match record to 16-3 heading into this afternoon’s triangular at Drumms Farm with Kansas City Lutheran and Seaburg Academy.
Joe Kaufman and Preston Karnes led the Orrick scoring with Kaufman taking medalist honors with a 4-over par 40, and Karnes a shot back to claim the runner-up spot.
Kalija Rogers continues to play well according to Coach Sam Griffin. Rogers carded a 45, followed by Matt Waters with 53, and Eric Rodenberg with 56.
Cale Brown had the low round for Hamilton with 42, while Cresten Snyder shot a 44. The low St. Paul’s score was turned in by Bryan Nierman, who shot 47.
The Orrick junior varsity shot 253, but Hamilton had the low JV score with 212.
Derrick Leaper was the medalist as he carded a 44 for the Hornets, with teammate Aaron Wynne shooting a 48.
Zach Nichols had the low Bearcat JV score with 52, followed by Ian Pigg with 65, Derrick Harris with 69, and John Sumpter with 67.
