Even with the winds howling Monday, Orrick had four golfers shoot in the 40s for the first time this season, but it wasn’t enough as the Bearcats fell to Excelsior Springs 184-191.
The Tigers had the medalist and the runner-up on their home course with Derek Vogler leading the way with a 5-over par 41, with Chase Adams just 2 shots back.
Joe Kaufman had the low Orrick round with 46, while Preston Karnes and Kalija Rogers each carded a 48, with Matt Waters shooting 49. Eric Rodenberg had a 52 for the afternoon.
“Kalija, Matt and Eric are improving each match,” Bearcat Coach Sam Griffin said. “Joe and Preston struggled somewhat with the wind, but overall, we played fairly well against a larger Excelsior squad.”
The Bearcats fall to 14-3 overall with the district tournament right around the corner on May 4.
The Orrick junior varsity shot 272 for the day, with Excelsior Springs shooting a 224. Once again, the Tigers had the two low JV scores with Zach Hamburg carding a 53, which was a shot better than Corey Falcone.
Zach Nichols had the low Bearcat JV round with 55, followed by Derrick Harris with 69 and John Sumpter with 73. Tyler Kent and Ian Pigg each shot 75.
