The Spartan golfers kept tight reins on the MRVC East lead with a dual victory Monday at the Royal Oaks Golf Course over host Knob Noster. Richmond turned in the two low individual rounds on the way to a 185-193 victory over the Panthers.
Blaine Broderick and Ty Tweedie tied for medalist honors as each Spartan carded a 6-over 42.
“We’re pleased with the win and keeping our MRVC East record clean with two matches to go,” Richmond Coach Murray Dennis said. “It wasn’t our lowest round, but I thought we played well considering the wins and the tight course. Blaine and Ty shot well, and Kane (Southwick) has been pretty steady for us. We are looking for a little more consistency with our No. 4 and No. 5 guys.”
The victory pushed the Spartans to 6-0 against league competition, and they are 7-1 overall.
Southwick ended his round with 47, while Adam Hellman carded a 54, with Andrew Sherman shooting 56. Scott Hofsommer had the low Knob Noster round with 45.
Like their varsity counterparts, the Richmond junior varsity also kept their record clean. The Spartan JV easily outshot the Panthers 225-261 to improve to 5-0 against the MRVC East, and 8-0 overall.
Zach Mathis was the JV medalist with a 53, followed by Morgan Richey with 55, Dylan Wyse with 58, James Stanton with 59 and Lucas Farabee with 72. Brandon Rittmiller shot 72 in an exhibition round for Richmond.
Hunter Miceli had the low round for the Panther JV with 60.
