The Orrick Bearcats enjoyed their day on the golf course Thursday afternoon at the Plattsburg Invitational. Senior Joe Kaufman enjoyed it even more as he captured individualist medalist honors for the tournament with a 7-over par 78. He shot a 44 on the front and followed with a 34 on the back to tie Drew Gray of Mid Buchanan, but Kaufman took the top spot on the tiebreaker.
The Bearcats had two other top 10 finishes in the format that features a best ball and a scramble.
The Orrick duo of Preston Karnes and Kalija Rogers teamed up for an 83 to finish fourth in best ball, while Eric Rodenberg and Matt Waters scrambled for an 85 to take seventh.
The Bearcats shot 246 for the tournament to place fourth in the team standings, with Bishop LeBlond ending with 235 to take first. Orrick finished just two shots behind Mid Buchanan’s third-place total. Trenton was the runner-up with a 243.
LeBlond had the top best ball and scramble teams. The duo of McCullough and M. Culver shot 74 to capture the best ball format, while Lammoglia and Schmitter carded a 79 to win the scramble.
Trenton had the second-place finishers in the best ball and scramble. Christenson and Schlarb shot 80 in the best ball, and Bunnell and Beverlin carded a 79 during the scramble for the Bulldogs.
One day earlier, Orrick finished eighth in the 12-team field at the Marceline Invitational.
The Bearcats shot 380 for the day at the Marceline Golf Course, with the host Tigers and LaPlata deadlocked for first place as each team carded a 338. Salisbury finished third with 341.
Kaufman and Karnes each shot an 87 to turn in the low Bearcat rounds for the day on the par-72 course. Marceline’s Tyler Hamilton was the tournament medalist with a 75, which edged Gregg Tuggle of LaPlata by a stroke.
Rogers shot a 97 for the Bearcats, followed by Waters with 109, and Zach Nichols with 110.
