Although it’s not a conference sport at the moment, the Orrick Bearcats are flexing their muscles against I-70 schools early in the golf season. Orrick swept a quad over fellow I-70 Conference teams Windsor, St. Paul’s and Concordia Wednesday afternoon at the Shirkey Golf Course.
Orrick shot 196 on a cloudy and cool afternoon to beat Windsor by 10 shots, followed by St. Paul’s with 219 and Concordia with 233.
Windsor senior Josh Sadler, who shared the Class 1 title with two other golfers last spring, and finished second the previous year, was the medalist for the day as he shot an even par 36 on the Shirkey front nine. Preston Karnes had the low round for Orrick with a 43 to finish as runner-up.
Joe Kaufman was just one shot back for the Bearcats with 44. Kalija Rogers shot 54 for Orrick followed by Eric Rodenberg with 55 and Matt Waters with 58. Josh Bushman had the low total for Concordia with a 48, while Bryan Nierman and Derek Bredehoeft each carded a 50 for the low St. Paul’s round.
