Despite less than favorable conditions Tuesday, Richmond High School was able to host its first track meet of the season at Robert Middleton track. Hamilton battled its way through the cool temperatures and blustery winds to take the boys’ and girls’ team titles at the Tri-County Meet.
The Hamilton boys ended the day with 178 points, with Higginsville taking second spot with 120.25, and Carrollton placed third with 114. Polo was fourth with 54 points, followed by Richmond with 52.5, Hardin-Central with 21.25, and Norborne with 10.
The Hamilton girls posted 310 points to outdistance the runners-up from Higginsville with 249. Carrollton placed third with 128, with Richmond taking fourth spot with 116.66 points. Polo placed fifth with 93, followed by Norborne with 60 and Hardin-Central with 17.33.
Stephen Smith had the highest Spartan finish for the day as he placed second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:19.9. Higginsville’s Brett McNeff had the low time of 11:52.02.
Jake Halterman finished third in the shot put with a distance of 40 feet, 8 inches, while Hardin-Central’s Luke Milligan had the winning toss of 44-6. Milligan also placed second in the discus with a distance of 110-9 1/2.
Lucas Hook also grabbed third for Richmond in the high jump with a leap of 5-6. Hook also finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-10. Preston Maples and Landon Schlegal tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 7-6. Luke Bailey finished fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 12:35.93, and also placed sixth in the 110 high hurdles in 18.45.
Alex Luman was sixth in the shot put with 37-9.
The Spartans had two relay teams earn points as the 4×800 team of Tyler Minnick, Dylan White, Josh Ahring, and Damon Goodall placed fourth with a time of 10:16, and the 4×400 team of Cody Gorham, Ahring, Tyler Minnick and Goodall was fifth with 4:16.73.
Savanna Nobile earned the only first place spot for Richmond as she won the pole vault with a leap of 7-0 for the Lady Spartans. She also placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:02.97, Hannah Alpers was the runner-up in the 3,200 meters with a time of 14:29.98.
Hannah Todd took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:10.63, with Brittanie Schuette also getting a fourth-place finish for Richmond with her time of 31.13 in the 200-meter dash.
Amanda Powell picked up team points with her sixth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 58.06. Hannah Hillegas and Alyssa Bradley both leaped 4-2 to tie for sixth in the high jump.
The Lady Spartans also ran well in the relay events with the 4×200 team of Kristie Spiers, Katie Spiers, Lexi Smith and Todd taking third with 2:05; while the 4×100 squad of Powell, Katie Spiers, Smith and LaToya Johnson turning in a third-place time of 1:00.52. The 4×400 team of Alpers, Bradley, Todd and Hayley Padgett also placed third with 4:58.04.
