The Orrick Bearcats held their own competing against larger schools Thursday at the Oak Grove Invitational played at Bent Oak Golf Course. The Bearcats ended the afternoon with 394, which placed them seventh in the nine-team field, and senior Joe Kaufman finished ninth in the individual competition.
Boonville turned in a team total of 342, which was 8 strokes better than the runner-up, Harrisonville. Pleasant Hill placed third with 364, followed by Grain Valley with 366, Lexington with 367, and Oak Grove with 389.
Odessa finished eighth with 438, with Higginsville shooting 501.
Kaufman carded an 87 with a 43 on the front 9, and a 44 on the back.
Tyler Lieberman and John Skelton of Boonville each shot an 83 to tie for medalist honors for the tournament.
Orrick’s No. 2 player, Preston Karnes shot a 91 for the day, followed by Kalija Rogers with 95, Matt Waters with 121, and Eric Rodenberg with 122.
The Bearcat junior varsity shot 526. Grain Valley had the low JV score with 395, followed by Pleasant Hill with 408 and Harrisonville with 412.
Marcus McClellan had the low JV round for Orrick with 119, followed by Zach Nichols with 124, and Tyler Kent with 138. Derrick Harris and Ian Pigg each shot 145.
