Richmond residents will notice an unwanted change in their water and sewer bills next month.
A sewer increase that was approved last fall will go into effect on next month’s bills.
The council had a split 4-4 vote on the increase and it took a decisive vote by Mayor Lance Green to break the tie.
A similar increase for water service failed to garner enough votes.
This is the second straight year the city has raised their sewer rates.
Rates will increase from $4.84 base rate to a $5.09 base rate. The per thousand gallons used rate increases from $7.58 to $7.98 or a total increase of about five percent.
It has been suggested that a four percent increase be instituted each year.
