They had to work a little longer, but the Stet Cardinals pushed themselves into the Class 1, District 13 championship game with an 82-78 overtime win over Breckenridge Thursday night.
The Cardinals, now 15-7, takes on top-seeded Braymer for the title Saturday night at 7:30 in Osborn.
Stet’s Ryan Foster and Breckenridge’s Tyler Morgan hooked up in a scoring duel with Foster pumping in a game-high 39, with Morgan hitting for 30.
Foster, who scored 32 points after halftime, added his final 6 points in the overtime session with a field goal and by making 4 of his 5 free throws.
Stet held a 25-13 lead after one quarter, and 40-34 at the intermission. The Bulldogs battled back to cut the Cardinal lead to 56-54 entering the fourth quarter.
The game was tied 72-72 at the end of regulation.
Walter Walker added 16 points to the Cardinal attack, with five 3-point buckets – three of those in the first period. Kaleb Newham hit for 13 points and all four free throw attempts in the overtime.
The Cardinals were 8 for 15 from the stripe in overtime, while the Bulldogs hit its 2 only attempts.
Aaron Gaunt connected on 8 3-point field goals for Breckenridge on his way to a 24-point night, while Dylan Haney added a dozen points.
