In their last tune-up before post-season play, the Hardin-Central Lady Bulldogs jumped out early and held off Santa Fe 59-44 Thursday night. The Lady Dawgs will take a 21-4 record, and top seed, into their first district game Tuesday at Norborne.
Brooke Derstler scored a game-high 22 points, with Allison Oyler adding 17 more for Hardin-Central. Santa Fe relied on the scoring of Dani Heimsoth, who hit for 21 points – 14 of those coming in the final 8 minutes.
The Lady Bulldogs held a 14-13 lead after the opening frame, but finished the half strong with a 14-4 second-quarter scoring advantage. Hardin-Central then held a 17-11 edge in the third to take a 45-28 lead into the final 8 minutes. Also scoring for Hardin-Central was Megan Layman with 8, followed by Brianne McGuire with 5, Lindsey Arbogast with 4 and Reanna Newham with 3. Arbogast and Derstler each hit the boards for 6 rebounds, with Arbogast also coming up with a team-high 3 steals.
Derstler had 4 assists with Newham dishing out 3 more helpers.
