The Orrick Lady Bearcats closed out the conference portion of the season on a winning note Friday night by dominating Sweet Springs 50-34 to finish the league at 6-1.
The Lady Bearcats finished strong by outscoring the Greyhounds 29-17 in the second half.
“We had a very good second half,” Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock said. “We hadn’t played very consistently in the first half. We turned the ball over too many times and didn’t do a very good job of boxing out. We talked about that at halftime, and we responded very well. We’re starting to understand how to play with a lead and put people away when we have the chance.”
Orrick led 16-8 after the first 8 minutes, and held a 29-17 advantage at the half.
Amanda Rodenberg’s double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds led the way as Orrick improved to 13-8 overall. The sophomore hit eight of 13 shots from the field, and 8 of her rebounds were on the defensive end.
Megan Swartz and Megan Stagner each added 8 points to the winning effort, followed by Elizabeth Clark and Brooke Endsley with 7 apiece. Also scoring for Orrick were Kristee Harris with 6, while Leslie LaFavor and Amy Isenhour chipped in 2 each.
Jodie Harris and Kristin Jones scored 8 apiece to lead Sweet Springs.
