Higginsville jumped to a big lead Tuesday night against the visiting Richmond Lady Spartan junior varsity on the way to a 44-30 victory. The Lady Huskers built a 17-6 lead after the first 7 minutes thanks to their pressure game.
“Higginsville runs a very aggressive press, but not one that we shouldn’t have been able to handle,” Richmond Coach Murray Dennis said. “Our decision-making against the press got us in trouble and we weren’t able to get ourselves out of it.”
Dennis added he was pleased with the overall effort of his Lady Spartans, but said they need to learn how to handle a pressure defense a little better.
The loss drops Richmond to 5-7 for the season with a game at Carrollton on Friday.
Ariel Hoard led the Lady Spartan scoresheet with 12 points, followed by Kadee McMillan with 9. Also scoring for Richmond were Jordan Thoreson with 4, Haley Padgett with 3, and Chelsea Dunwoodie with 2.
The Lady Huskers increased their halftime lead to 29-16, and took a 36-25 lead into the final 7 minutes.
