For the second time this week, the Orrick Lady Bearcats got a good night from the guards and the result was a 42-23 victory over visiting Concordia Tuesday night. It was Orrick’s fifth I-70 Conference win in six games, and also boosted the Lady Bearcats to 12-8 overall.
Orrick took command early and never was really threatened as the Lady Bearcats raced to an 8-6 lead after 8 minutes and, by the end of the third period, held a 29-9 cushion.
“We had a very good defensive game,” Lady Bearcat Coach Mitch Comstock said. “We also had great guard play, took care of the ball and made smart decisions. Amanda Rodenberg had another tremendous night against a defense that was focused on shutting her down.”
Rodenberg ended the night with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Leslie LaFavor and Elizabeth Clark each added 6 points for Orrick, followed by Kristee Harris with 4, Shelby Harth with 2, and Megan Stagner with a free throw.
The Lady Bearcats were 10 of 17 from the free throw line.
Tori Kopp and Laura Blankenship each scored 8 points to lead Concordia, now 2-3 in the conference and 8-10 overall. The Orioles converted 4 of 11 free throw opportunities.
