The Orrick Lady Bearcats had a tough time holding on to the basketball Wednesday night as they dropped a 63-56 decision at Lathrop.
The second loss in as many nights dropped Orrick to 10-7 for the season, and coach Mitch Comstock said most of the losses can be attributed to committing too many turnovers.
“We keep having problems with turnovers,” he said. “Every game we have lost this year, we have had at least 25 turnovers. When we take care of the ball we are successful, but when we don’t we lose games we should have won. Hopefully, we can fix this problem before district play starts.”
The Lady Bearcats held a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, and a 28-26 advantage at the intermission.
The second half belonged to the 6-11 Mules. Lathrop outscored the visitors 15-9 in the third period, and then closed out the game with a 22-19 advantage in the final 8 minutes.
Lathrop also took advantage of its free throw opportunities by making 24 of 31 attempts, with Orrick converting 15 of 23 from the stripe.
Amanda Rodenberg scored a game-high 18 points for Orrick with Gabriela Pigg adding 11.
Leslie LaFavor followed with 8 points, while Kristee Harris chipped in 6. Also scoring for the Lady Bearcats were Brooke Endsley with 5, Megan Swartz with 4, Elizabeth Clark with 3 and Shelby Harth with a free throw.
Lathrop had four players reach double figures with Janelle Saling leading the way with 13, followed by Liz Beers with 12, Lacy Bishop with 11 and Katie Slibowski with 10.
The Lady Bearcats will be at Mid Buchanan this evening.
