The Orrick Bearcats’ tour through the KCI Conference continued Wednesday night with a road contest at Lathrop. The Bearcats rebounded from a tough loss at North Platte one night earlier and put together a solid effort in a 59-35 victory over the Mules.
Clayton Jones pumped in a game-high 23 points to help Orrick improve to 5-12 for the season, while the Mules remain winless in 15 games. Jones connected on three of the Bearcats’ four 3-point buckets, with Dakota Harth hitting the other one.
Jones hit 10 points, and Cam McGlothlin scored 7 of his 9 points in the first period, as the Bearcats jumped out to a 19-11 lead and never looked back. Coach Morgan Dickson said his team played well for four quarters.
“It was a very good performance throughout the game,” he said. “We didn’t relax when we got a big lead and lots of kids played quality minutes. We handled their pressure early, and got easy baskets. We gained confidence on our way to the win.”
The Bearcats pushed their halftime lead to 39-23, and then took a 55-32 into the final 8 minutes.
Harth also ended up in double figures for Orrick with 10 points, followed by Anthony Sevart and Preston Karnes with 6 apiece, Ty Griffin scored 3, and Kalija Rogers added 2.
Matt Wren led nine different Lathrop scorers with 11 points.
Orrick hit 7 of 11 free throws for the night, with the Mules making 14 of their 25 attempts from the stripe.
The Bearcats travel to Mid Buchanan this evening.
