For the most part, Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson was pleased with the effort of his Bearcats despite a 57-44 road loss to North Platte.
The Bearcats and Panthers battled on even terms throughout most of the contest with North Platte holding an 18-13 lead after 8 minutes and 27-25 at the half. Orrick battled back to take a lead briefly in the third quarter, but a pair of long-range 3-pointers from Corey Hale boosted the Panthers to a 5-point lead, 39-34, entering the final 8 minutes.
The Orrick offense stalled just enough in the fourth quarter to keep the Bearcats from staging another comeback.
“We hit a two to three minute stretch where we didn’t move and then we had to try and catch up late,” Dickson said. “This was the best game we have played for a while, so hopefully we can center this kind of effort the rest of the week.”
Hale ended the evening with 15 points, while Cody Hays added 12, and Brendon Hensley 10 for the 7-7 Panthers.
Orrick, now 4-12, was led by Clayton Jones’ 14 points, with Dakota Harth adding 9 and Eric Rodenberg with 5.
Cameron McGlothlin added 4 points, followed by Joe Kaufman with a 3-point basket, while Kalija Rogers, Justin Dickson, Anthony Sevart and Nick Lafferty all scored 2 each. Ty Griffin added a free throw to the Bearcat total.
