Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson did not like the effort of his Bearcats in Saturday’s 62-46 loss to Maysville in the third-place game of the Bill Burns Classic in Lathrop. The Bearcats fell behind quickly and never got untracked as their season record dropped to 2-5.
Orrick also sent the Wolverines to the free throw line 36 times.
“We did very little right in the first half, especially committing too many fouls,” Dickson said. “We must regroup and be ready to go Tuesday (tonight) against Hardin in the Wellington Tournament.”
Maysville jumped out to a 20-7 lead after one period, and took a 34-15 advantage by the half. It was a much better second half for Orrick as the Bearcats managed 17 points in the third quarter and 14 more in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Maysville’s totals of 18 and 10.
Jake Mazurkewycz paced the Wolverines in scoring with 19 points. Clayton Jones and Cam McGlothlin led Orrick with 11 points each, with Anthony Sevart adding 9, followed by Luke Searcy and Nick Lafferty with 4 apiece, Eric Rodenberg with 3 and Dakota Harth and Kalija Rogers with 2 each.
Maysville converted 16 of its free throw attempts, while the Bearcats visited the stripe 17 times and made 8.
