The Stet Lady Cardinals managed just five field goals Monday night in the first round of the Braymer Invitational. Second-seeded Southwest jumped out to a 13-2 lead after the first 8 minutes and controlled the remainder of the night in a 62-12 win over Stet.
The Lady Cardinals managed just one field goal in each of the opening two periods as Southwest opened up a 34-4 cushion at the intermission. The Wildcats went on to outscore Stet 20-2 in the third and 8-6 in the fourth.
Lauren Upton scored 17 of her game-high 19 points for Southwest in the first frame as she hit three buckets outside the arc. Brittany Tutt added a dozen points to help the Wildcats advance to Thursday’s semifinal.
Haley Coats led Stet with 5 points, followed by Brooke McWhirter with 4, while Devon Stagner added 2, and Tiffiny Walker, a free throw.
Stet will play in the consolation semifinal Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
