The Orrick Lady Bearcats played aggressive defense Friday night in a 53-41 win over Sweet Springs in the third-place game of the I-70 Conference Tournament.
Orrick came up with 25 steals against the host Greyhounds as the Lady Bearcats improved to 2-1 for the season.
Sweet Springs held an 8-6 lead after the opening 8 minutes, but a 20-11 scoring advantage in the second period gave Orrick a 26-19 lead at the half. Orrick took a 40-29 edge into the fourth frame.
Amanda Rodenberg led the Orrick scoring with 12 points, with Megan Swartz adding 11. Rodenberg also grabbed 11 rebounds, while Swartz led the team in steals with 5.
Shelby Harth also had 5 steals for the Lady Bearcat defense to go along with her 6 points. Leslie LaFavor chipped in a half-dozen points with 4 steals.
Gabriela Pigg and Brooke Endsley added 6 points apiece to the winning Orrick effort, with Pigg hitting the boards to pull down 10 rebounds, with 6 of those on the offensive end.
Also scoring were Amy Isenhour and Elizabeth Clark with 3 each, and Kristee Harris with 2.
