Lady Dawgs take control early

Hardin-Central put 32 points on the board in the first quarter as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to an 82-27 CLAA road victory Monday night at Breckenridge.
Reanna Newham helped get Hardin-Central started with 14 of her season-high 16 points in the opening period, while Brooke Derstler hit a pair of 3-point buckets during a 10-point first quarter. Derstler ended the night with a game-high 23, while Megan Layman scored a season-high 17 points as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-1 for the season.
After jumping out to a huge first-quarter lead, Hardin-Central took a 39-15 cushion into the half and led 68-22 after three periods.
Nine of the 12 Hardin-Central players scored at least 2 points. Also scoring were Lindsey Arbogast with 6, Kayla Carrillo and Allison Oyler added 5 each, while Brianne McGuire and Tommie Twyman scored 4 apiece, and Angelica Bradley chipped in 2 points.
Kelsie Lamp led Breckenridge with 14 points and Jamee Gilgour added 10.
Hardin-Central hit 12 of its 22 free throws, with Breckenridge making 7 of its 17.
