The Bearcat basketball team left the I-70 Conference Tournament at Sweet Springs without a victory following a 51-43 loss to Concordia in the seventh-place game Saturday.
Orrick trailed 24-20 after the first half, but struggled offensively in the third period as the Bearcats were outscored 18-7. Orrick had just one field goal in the third. The Bearcats held a 16-9 scoring advantage in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough.
“We are struggling as a basketball team, but the kids are playing hard and I’m proud of their effort,” Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson said. “We have spurts where we look good, but we don’t sustain that. We need to get more consistent and just get in basketball shape and we’ll be OK.”
Three Orioles ended the night in double figures with Carter Brown leading the way with 13, followed by Cale Brunkhorst and Drew Smith with 12 each.
Clayton Jones hit for a game-high 19 for Orrick, including making 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Joe Kaufman scored 9 for the Bearcats, followed by Ty Griffin with 6, Eric Rodenberg with 4, Cameron McGlothlin with 3, and Anthony Sevart with 2.
