Stet held Norborne scoreless in the first quarter and then held the Pirates to single-digit scoring in the remaining periods Thursday night as the Cardinals coasted to a 47-18 road victory. The Lady Cardinals managed just 7 points in the second half as they dropped a 37-20 decision in the earlier game.
Derek McGinnis scored 6 of his 11 points and Kaleb Newham added 7 of his 10 points in the opening period to help jump-start the Cards to a 15-0 lead after the opening 8 minutes. Stet never looked back as the Cards built a 28-6 bulge at the half. Newham had both 3-point buckets for the Cardinals who also got scoring from six others.
Walter Walker added 8 points followed by Ryan Foster with 7, Devin Milligan with 4, Michael Gervy with 3, while Darrick Brisbin and J.J. Storey each added 2.
Katie Hogan led the Norborne scoring in the Lady Pirates victory, with Jocie Glaze adding 8 more. Macy Koontz led the Lady Cardinal scoring with 7 points, while Tiffany Walker hit for 6 and Jody Burk added 4 more. Haley Coats, Jill Burk and Caitlin Still each added a free throw for Stet.
Norborne held an 8-6 lead after the first quarter and then outscored the visitors 13-7 in the second for a 21-13 lead at the half.
Both teams struggled in the third period with Stet holding a 5-3 advantage, but Norborne closed out the game with a 13-point final quarter, while the Lady Cards managed just one field goal.
