The Orrick Bearcats are still trying to get their basketball legs as the new season unfolds. Orrick dropped its second game of the I-70 Conference Tournament to Wellington-Napoleon 61-27.
The Bearcats will play for seventh place Saturday at 3 p.m. Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson said it was just not a good outing for his second squad.
“Not a very good performance by the Bearcats, but hopefully a learning experience,” he said. “We, again, were short handed, but the kids played hard. We’ll get to work and be ready for Concordia Saturday.”
The Tigers jumped out to a 13-5 lead entering the second period, and a 22-12 spurt boosted their halftime advantage to 18 points. Wellington-Napoleon outscored Orrick 17-10 in the third quarter and 9-0 over the final 8 minutes.
Three Tigers reached double figures with Cameron Seitz and Brett Williams each scoring 13, while Joey Mulheron added 10.
Cameron McGlothlin paced the Bearcat scoring with 13 points, with Ty Griffin and Clayton Jones adding 4 apiece.
Joe Kaufman scored 3 for Orrick, followed by Kalija Rogers with 2 and Preston Karnes with a free throw.
Orrick converted 2 of its 12 attempts from the stripe, while the Tigers hit 8 of 14.
