The driver of this 2002 Dodge Intrepid slid down the side of the road on Highway 13 and Crispin Street Wednesday morning after it was broadsided by another car while attempting to make an illegal u-turn, according to a Richmond Police report. The crash was reported at 9:51 a.m.
Marla Russell, 22, of Richmond was heading northbound on Highway 13 when she merged onto the shoulder and then attempted to make a u-turn to travel southbound on Highway 13.
Jerry Yerington, 60, of Cowgill was traveling behind Russell and collided with Russell as she attempted to make the U-turn.
Russell was transported to Ray County Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries and was issued a citation for an illegal u-turn and no insurance. Yerington refused treatment at the scene. Both cars sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.
The Richmond Police Department investigated the crash and was assisted by the Ray County Sheriff’s Department, Richmond Fire and Ray County Ambulance.
Two minutes later, a fender-bender was reported just blocks away at Highway 13 and Main Street. The crash occurred when one driver stopped for emergency vehicles headed for the first crash and was rear-ended by another vehicle. Neither driver sustained injuries and both vehicles were driven from the scene. (Photo by Dennis Sharkey/The Daily News)
