The Richmond cross country team spent a busy week preparing for Thursday’s MRVC meet at Southview Park. On Oct. 16, the Spartan runners were in Warrensburg and two days later were competing at Platte Ridge Park in Weston for the West Platte Invitational.
Seven runners set personal best times, with five of them earning medals, at the Warrensburg Invitational.
Deanna Barger set her personal-best time in the varsity meet with 22 minutes, 27 seconds to finish in 20th place. Kayleb Dunwoodie set a personal best with 20:16 as he finished 51st for the varsity boys. Ray Smith had the low time for the Spartans with 19:19 as he placed 32nd.
Three Spartan runners turned in their best times of the season in the junior varsity competition. Josh Ahring had the top finish with his personal-best, and 12th-place time of 20:42, with Mike Nelson taking 20th spot with his personal-best of 21:30 and earning a medal. Stephen Cardwell finished out of the medals at 29th, but did have his low time of the season with 22:17.
Hannah Alpers had the top finish for the Lady Spartan JV. Alpers was 12th with her personal-best of 23:40, while teammate LaToya Johnson bettered her best time by 1:20 with 23:55 and earned a medal with her 16th-place finish.
Ray Smith had the top finish for the Spartans at West Platte as he covered the 5K distance in 19:15 and placed 24th. Stephen Smith was 35th with 19:56, followed by Blaine Broderick at 20:47 (45th), Luke Bailey at 20:58 (47th) and Josh Isgriggs at 21:04 (48th).
Deanna Barger placed 27th in the varsity race for the Lady Spartans with a time of 23:34.
Ahring set another personal-best time with 20:40 as he took sixth place in the JV competition, while Mike Nelson earned Richmond’s other medal with a time of 21:35. Stephen Cardwell placed 16th for the Spartans with a time of 22:28, followed by Zach Sander with 22:40 (17th), and Ben Moses with 23:21 (20th).
Johnson finished fifth for the Lady Spartan JV with a time of 26:32.
