Richard Wood Dodson, Sr., 60, of Independence, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Mr. Dodson was born Jan. 12, 1948, in Independence, the son of Wood and Fleeta Frances (Brummet) Dodson. He first married Julie Reed of Greenwood. He second married Donna Price of Cameron.
Survivors include: his daughter from his first marriage, Candice Simons, of Greenwood; two daughters and sons from his second marriage, Shelly McDermott, Cherry Dodson, and Michael Dodson, all of Independence, and Richard Dodson, Jr., of Enid, Okla.; his fiancé, Lois Howard of Independence; his parents, Wood and Fleeta Dodson of Stover; two brothers, Ronald Dodson of Lee’s Summit, and Terrance Dodson of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Kim Wade of Higginsville; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A son, John Dodson, preceded him in death on June 27, 1997.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lupus Foundation.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites.
