Everett (Mel) Melvon Green, 85, of Richmond, died at 6:15 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mel was born Sept. 19, 1922 in Bogard, the son of Everett Melvon, Sr. and Josie M. (Newport) Green.
Mel was self employed as an electrician and had worked for Tabor Products Inc., in Henrietta. He lived most of his life in Millville, as well as Wyoming, Washington and Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean War. Mel was of the Christian faith, and believed he had a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of his spiritual condition.
Survivors include: one son, Steve Green of Kingston, Wash.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Powers and her husband, Dick, of Angoon, Alaska; one brother, Bill Green of Shepherd, Mont.; one sister, Jean Clariday of Independence; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Frances Donovan, preceded Mel in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Millville United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Millville United Methodist Church in Millville.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
