James Gilkey, 88, of Lexington, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Lexington Care Center.
Mr. Gilkey was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Higginsville, the son of Elmer James and Hattie Mae Booker Gilkey. He married Gertrude “Sweetie” Howard June 16, 1938; she preceded him in death July 9, 2002.
James was a Marine veteran of World War II and had worked in the power plant at the Lake City Munitions Plant. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include: one son, James E. Gilkey, Jr.,of Blue Springs; two grandchildren, Tamiko J. Burris and her husband, Chuck, of Blue Springs and Michael Gilkey of Lee’s Summit; ten sisters; and two brothers.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 at Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
