After a slow start, the Orrick Lady Bearcat volleyball team is starting to hit their stride. The Lady Bearcats rolled through the competition Saturday to take first place at the Lathrop Tournament.
Orrick defeated the host school in three games, 25-19, 15-25 and 25-19 to win the championship after not dropping a game throughout the afternoon.
“The girls played really well,” Orrick Coach Susan Rodenberg said. “I am pleased with the way the team has started to come together. They are playing as one unit now.”
Amy Isenhour led the way for Orrick with 52 service points, including 21 aces. She also had a team-high 87 assists throughout the day with 17 digs. Amanda Rodenberg hit for 48 points with 18 aces to go along with 34 kills in 60 attacks and a team-high 6 blocks. Brooke Endsley hit for 43 points with 15 aces, and 18 digs.
Micaela Martin and Elizabeth Clark had 17 kills each, with Clark credited with 37 digs. Leslie LaFavor led the Cats in digs with 43, while Caitlin Stevinson added 29 points and 16 aces.
Orrick opened the day with a 25-17, 25-15 win over South Holt, followed by a 25-19, 25-18 victory over East Buchanan. The Lady Cats then stopped Plattsburg 25-21 and 25-15 to advance to the semifinals where Orrick downed Trenton 25-22 and 25-9.
