Stanley Jay Miller, 96, of Carrollton, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Mr. Miller was born May 3, 1912, in rural Carroll County, the son of John and Lena (Jorg) Miller. He married Rachel May Tweedie Sept. 1, 1940; she survives, of the home.
Mr. Miller was a retired farmer, living most of his life in Carroll County. He attended Stamm Grade School and Chillicothe Business College, and received his B.S. Degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri. He served over 21 years on the Fairhaven Cemetery Board. Mr. Miller was a past president of the Carroll County Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader for over 20 years. His consuming interest was in his membership in the McCroskie Creek Baptist Church, serving in many capacities.
Additional survivors include: one daughter, Linda Sue Miller of Mesa, Ariz.; one son, Norman Miller of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Stacey Gurule, Heather Sobbing, Lorena Pryor and Jay Miller; and eight great-grandchildren, August Sobbing, Maggie Sobbing, Stanley Jacob Sobbing, Lily Pryor, Mellody Pryor, Sheila Pryor, Julie Pryor and Aiden Gurule.
In addition to his parents, one daughter-in-law, Lina M. Miller; four brothers, Emmett William Miller, Harry LeRoy Miller, Luther Daniel Miller and Philip Jorg Miller; and three sisters, Lottie Margaret Miller, Bessie Amelia Whiteside and Mary Hazel Miller, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the McCroskie Creek Baptist Church Building Fund or to the McCroskie Creek Cemetery Association.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, at the McCroskie Creek Baptist Church, northeast of Norborne. Burial will be at Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne.
