Earl “Gene” McCrary, 81, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at his home.
Gene was born on July 2, 1927, in Hamilton, the son of Henry Irvin and Mabel E. (Barnhill) McCrary. He served in the US Army in 1945 where he was a boxer. He worked for General Motors retiring after over 30 years of employment.
Survivors include: his wife Carolyn (Tackett) McCrary of the home; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronald Gene of Carrier, Miss., Charles Whitham and his wife, Mayumi, of Torrance, Calif., and James Whitham of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Connie Murray of Excelsior Springs, and Stephanie Perry and her husband, Doug, of Kearney; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his siblings, Floyd, Neil, Lester, Don, Helen, Leona, and Frances, and one grandchild Kaleb Kistner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Polley Cemetery.
