Ada P. Norris, 78, of Rayville, died at 3:45 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Ada was born Feb. 25, 1930 in Richmond, the daughter of Jess Harrison and Myrtal (Tait) Armstrong.
Ada was a cook for the past 17 years at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, where she was well known for her mile-high pies and her snickerdoodles. She lived most of her life in the Richmond and Elkhorn areas. She had been a 4-H Leader in the past. She was of the Christian Faith.
Survivors include: one son, John Norris of Rayville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Richardson and her husband, Jim, of Richmond, and Patty Estes and her husband, Dennis, of Richmond; five grandchildren Misty Clayton, Jason Richardson, Katie Estes, Simon Estes and Colene Estes; and two great-grandchildren Hali Clayton and Destiny Richardson.
In addition to her parents, one daughter, Tina Norris, who died in infancy; one brother, Jess “Bud” Armstrong; and three sisters, Frances Johnson, Beulah Tate and Thelma Gorham, preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Crowley Cemetery near Rayville.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
