Eldon Wegeng, 86, of Richmond, formerly of Henrietta, died at 5:55 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mr. Wegeng was born Oct. 29, 1921 in Norborne, the son of William A. and Mary S. (Huffman) Wegeng. He married Vanda Lea Macoubrie of Rockingham community on Sept. 30, 1945; she survives of the home.
Mr. Wegeng was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Richmond. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion Post # 237. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII. He lived in Henrietta before moving to Richmond in 1975.
In addition to his wife, Vanda, survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Eldon Wegeng and his wife, Pamela, of Wichita, Kan., Terry Lee Wegeng and his wife, Phylis, of Excelsior Springs; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marjorie Gronniger of Eudora, Rosemary Hockemeier and her husband, Abbie, of Richmond, Elizabeth Backes and her husband, Joe, of Carrollton, Judith Goetting of Norborne, and Carol Ruegg of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Brett Wegeng, Courtney Lawrie, Stephen Wegeng, Adrian Wegeng, Preston Wegeng and Pierce Wegeng; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
The visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, where the rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery, where a flag presentation will be conducted by the American Legion Post #237 and the VFW Post #4398.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
