Dessie B. Raw, 88, of Richmond, died at 5:43 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Dessie was born Oct. 16, 1919, in O’Conto, Neb., the daughter of James William and Nancy Lea Fairy (Palmer) Rash. She married Raymond Herbert Raw of Waverly, on April 10, 1937; he preceded her in death on March 17, 1985.
Dessie was a housewife/homemaker and had also worked as a sales person for Stanley Home Products for 40 years. She lived most of her adult life in the Ray County area and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include: four sons and two daughters-in-law, Leslie E. Raw and his wife, Mary J., of Norborne, Raymond L. Raw and his wife, Karen D., of Carrollton, Larry D. Raw of Independence, and Ronald K. Raw of Liberty; one daughter and son-in-law JoAnn Tankesley and her husband, Ivan, of Higginsville; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, her parents, six brothers Allen, Floyd, Kenneth, Ernest, Daniel and Frankie; and five sisters, Goldie, Hattie, Edith, Ruby, and Violet, preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Dessie B. Raw Memorial Fund.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 3, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond.
