Joseph Dearing “Joe” Meador, 88, of Hardin, died at 1:29 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Joe was born Nov. 17, 1919 in Hardin, the son of William Riley Meador, Jr. and Bettie Wilson Meador. He married Evelyn Nevin of Iowa; she preceded him in death in 1979. He later married Charlene N. Kuhn of Hardin on Dec. 31, 1980; she preceded him in death on May 29, 2005.
Joe worked at Lake City Arsenal before retiring. He lived in Hardin all of his life. He was a member of the Hardin Christian Church and the Hardin American Legion Post. Joe was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: two sisters, Mary Cynthia June of Liberty, and Margaret Anne Rigdon of Overland Park, Kan.
In addition to his parents and wives, five brothers, Homer, Riley, Lee, Michael and John Meador; one sister, Willa Mae Sheffler; and four other siblings who died in infancy, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hardin Christian Church or the Hardin Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 14, at Hardin Christian Church. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at the church. Inurnment with military graveside services will be at a later date in Hardin Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
