Adara Guthrie, 81, of Richmond passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008, surrounded by her loving family in Raytown.
Adara was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Muskegon, Mich. the daughter of Io Foote Hicks and Norman B. Lyng. In 1949, Adara married Lowell Guthrie, beginning her life as a beloved mother. Adara lived most of her life in Richmond, and was an active member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church. She also donated much of her time to the Salvation Army as a volunteer.
Survivors include: one son, Larry Guthrie of Independence; daughters, Mary Guthrie of Quartzsite, Ariz., Susan Cropley of Independence, and Hazel Vroom of Blue Springs; son Norman Guthrie of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter Ruth Ann McFee of Raytown; one brother, Norman Lyng of Pearland, Texas; one sister, Norma McEowen of Clinton; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband and infant son, Donald Dewayne Guthrie, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Richmond.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, May 30, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services for Adara will be immediately follow the visitation at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Richmond.
Arrangements are under the direction of Polley Funeral Home in Richmond.
