Marguerite N. McCanless, 99, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Ray County Memorial Hospital.
Marguerite was born March 14, 1909, in Orrick, the daughter of Septia (Elliot) and Daniel Mayers. After meeting Isaac “Ike” McCanless, they were married on June 15, 1929, in Excelsior Springs. Marguerite attained the Deacon Emeritus title at Richmond Christian Church, where she was also Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She loved football, and was an avid Missouri Tiger fan, as well as her hometown Richmond Spartans. Marguerite also loved to fish and to garden. She loved all her children and grandchildren, and they loved her dearly. Her family was always number one with her.
Survivors include: one daughter, Marsha Mae Young, of Richmond; one son, Ronald David McCanless, of Independence; grandchildren Michelle Jaschen, of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Terry McCanless, of Richmond, Jane Ann Weisz, of Hardin, Judith Collins, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Rebecca Neely, of Kansas City, Mo., Debra Dillinger, of Cassville, Kevin Young, of Richmond, John Young, of Kansas City, Mo., David McCanless, of Lee’s Summit, Edward McCanless, of Blue Springs, 30 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband, one brother, three sisters, and one son John Estill McCanless, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, May 15, at the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond. Funeral services for Marguerite will immediately follow the visitation at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the church. Burial will take place at Richmond Memory Gardens immediately following the funeral service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Polley Funeral Home in Richmond.
