Donald Wayne Proffitt, 87, of Excelsior Springs, died at 5:35 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty.
Mr. Proffitt was born June 14, 1920, in rural Norborne, the son of Mitchel M. and Virgie F. (Stratton) Proffitt. He married Dorothy E. (Ware) Proffitt of Richmond on Aug. 31, 1940; she survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one grandson, Chris Wayne Rauchle and his wife, Stacy, of Independence; one granddaughter, Christina Rauchle of Liberty; one son-in-law, Chris William Rauchle and his wife, Georgia, of Kearney; four great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Mercedes, Ciarra and Zachary; and one great-great-granddaughter, Makenna.
In addition to his parents: his daughter, Marilyn R. Rauchle, and three brothers, Lloyd G. Proffitt and two others who died in infancy, preceded him in death.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the New Hope Cemetery in Hardin.
Mr. Proffitt will lie in state from 2 to 5 p.m., Friday, April 25, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at the funeral home. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Hardin.
