Bertha “Bert” Bowker, 71, of Orrick, lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, in Richmond.
Bert was born in Orrick on May 19, 1936, the daughter of Joseph and Lavena Windsor. She was a lifelong Orrick area resident. Along with being a loving mother to her three children, Bert worked as a beautician and then as a teacher’s aide for the Orrick School District. Bert was an avid reader and could usually be found with a book or crossword puzzle in hand.
In 1999, Bert met her soul mate, Melvin Bowker, and they were married in July of 2003. Although their time together was short, it was the happiest time of her life.
Along with her loving husband Mel, survivors include: two daughters, Jodie King of Liberty and Jana Bunch of Orrick; one son, Jason Offutt of Maryville; two-step daughters, Venette Brock of Lawson and Lynn Hylton of Liberty; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and six step-grandchildren.
Her parents preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Liberty Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service to celebrate Bert’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April19, 2008, at the Orrick United Methodist Church in Orrick.
Arrangements are under the direction of Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
