John Richard Pettus, 80, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Richmond and Henrietta, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Jefferson Health Care in Lee’s Summit.
John was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Henrietta, the son of Joseph Lee and Augusta Susan (Delameter) Pettus.
John enjoyed coloring, painting and reading the Bible. He loved to worship and was a witness to others.
Survivors include: two sisters, Rev. Norma Judd Dumas of Lee’s Summit and Alice Ann Davis of Waterville, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews; his guardian, Susan Mullin of Warsaw; and a special foster son, Bob Flagler of Odessa.
His parents and four sisters, Ruth Miller, Mary Smith, Margaret Pettus and Juanita Pettus, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Jefferson Health Care Activity Department.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, at the Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Graveside services will immediately follow the visitation at 2 p.m., at the Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond. There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 17, at the Jefferson Health Care in Lee’s Summit.
