Elmer L. Joiner, Jr., 76, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Monday, April 7, 2008 at his home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Elmer was born April 20, 1931, in Seymour, the son of Elmer and Anna (Mills) Joiner. He graduated from Seymour High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. In 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary J. Patton.
He had been a superintendent in heavy construction for various companies and last worked as a security guard for Ameristar Casino.
Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Mary Joiner, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Paul Tipton and his wife, Joyce, of Richland, N.C., and Harry Tipton and his wife, Tami, of Roseland, Fla.; two daughters, Terri Honn of Kansas City, Mo., and Vickie Wright of Orrick; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul Joiner and his wife, Ginny, of Butler; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Shirley Glenn and her husband, Dowan, of Raytown, Donna Fitzwater of Raytown, Ruth Estrada and her husband, Frank, of Kansas City, Kan., Ruby Hardin and her husband, David, of Kansas City, Mo., and Carolyn Stewart and her husband, Dan, of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grand-children; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, two brothers, one niece and nephew, preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elmer Joiner Memorial Fund in care of Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 10, at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 11, at Orrick Christian Church. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery in rural Orrick.
