Ruth Story, 80, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Ruth was born Oct. 18, 1927 in Pomona, the daughter of Collis and Pearl (Rothgeb) Collins. Ruth married Wayne Story, who preceded her in death in 2003.
She lived in Orrick for 35 years. She had worked at J.D.’s Store in Orrick, the cafeteria at the Ford Plant in Kansas City, Mo., at the Campbell’s Soup Plant in Ark., and as a telephone operator in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Birdville High School in Birdville, Texas. Ruth babysat for many years and raised her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Story and his wife, Joy, of Richmond, and Bill Harrison and his wife, Lynn, of Lewisville, Texas; one daughter, Beverly Harrison, of Richmond; two brothers, Wiley Joe Collins of Meridian, Texas and Leon Collins of Mansfield, Texas; three stepchildren, Freda May Bentley, Burnell Story and his wife, Rose, and Bob Story and his wife, Louise; three grandchildren, Shane, Chris and Janie; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wayne, three brothers, Harold Collins, Howard Collins and Charley Ray Collins, three sisters, Jewel, Louise and Thelma, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, March 17, at Orrick Baptist Church in Orrick. Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.
