Donald Eugene Hurshman, 72, of Excelsior Springs, passed away at his home Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
Donald was born May 28, 1935, the son of David and Gladys (Vance) Hurshman, of Orrick. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a Chief Gunnersmate. On June 28, 1960 in Yokohama, Japan, Donald married Hisako Watanuki. Donald loved to work in his garden, and was a devoted and loving husband.
Survivors include: his wife Hisako Hurshman, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike Hurshman and his wife, Brenda, of Excelsior Springs, Kenneth T. Hurshman and his wife, Brenda, of Rayville; two brothers Kenneth Hurshman of Orrick, and Chester Hurshman of Holden; two sisters, Juanita Baker of Excelsior Springs, and Lola Negaard of Palmdale, Calif.; four grandchildren Tina Wheeler of Oak Grove, Derrek Hurshman of Excelsior Springs, Sarah Hurshman of Rayville, and Tyler Hurshman of Excelsior Springs; three great-grandchildren Michael Wheeler, Matthew Wheeler and Marcus Wheeler, all of Oak Grove.
His parents, one son, Jimmy Hurshman and one sister, Charlotte Hurshman, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of life will be held for Donald at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
