James Wilts Goetting, 85, a lifelong resident of the Norborne, and Carrollton areas, died at 12:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
James was born June 14, 1922 in Norborne, the son of August and Mary (Wilts) Goetting. He married Josephine Standley, of Carrollton, on Jan. 29, 1977; she preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 1995.
James attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School and Norborne High School. He was a farmer for over 60 years before retiring. He served on the Carroll County ASCS Committee as a representative of the Moss Creek Township. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Norborne. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, two brothers, Lavern and Charles Goetting, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Lutheran Hour or the Carroll County Senior Center.
There will be no family visitation; the body will lie in state from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 3, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, at the Lutheran Cemetery, north of Norborne, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Carrollton Pence-Lovell-England VFW Post #1773.
